“DACA recipients stay ineligible for FHA loans”
After months and months of doubt about whether or not the Federal Housing management is supporting mortgages for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients or otherwise not, the Department of Housing and Urban developing has finally offered a textbook answer. And that solution is not any.
In a page delivered this week to Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-CA, HUD Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Relations Len Wolfson reported definitively that Dreamers aren’t qualified to receive FHA mortgages.
“Determination of citizenship and immigration status isn’t the obligation of HUD therefore the Department hinges on other federal government agencies with this information, ” Wolfson said within the page to Aguilar (that was reported first by Buzzfeed).
“Accordingly, because DACA doesn’t confer legal status, DACA recipients stay ineligible for FHA loans, ” Wolfson stated.
That declaration is just a reversal from HUD’s answers that are previous questions regarding whether FHA is supporting mortgages for Dreamers.
HUD told HousingWire previously this that its policies surrounding DACA borrowers had not changed, despite ongoing confusion in the mortgage industry year.
As Dani Hernandez formerly detailed for HousingWire, DACA recipients had been entitled to FHA backing under specific circumstances, but that has been under an administration that is different had various interpretations of this policies under consideration.
